In Memoriam
I need to go find a train that’s completely empty, except for one person, and sit down next to that person, and start a conversation.

2 interviews and a general knowledge test are now scheduled for the next couple of weeks, for 2 insurance salesman positions and a census job. Also finally applied to that teaching job in Japan.  Wooh!

In the coffee shop today, my friend offered me a chance at a part time gig.  Apparently his mom is a publisher and a certain Physics author she has helped publish wants someone to use social media to popularize his book. I can do that.

Despite the age we live in, I am still asked to give my ethnicity, gender, and other information that could qualify me as a minority, which I am not.  And so I have to fill out this information, knowing full well as a white male with no disabilities that giving this information could very well cost me the job for which I am applying. Does anyone else see the irony in affirmative action?  Is...

I’m starting to get the feeling that if I spin my words right I can make myself qualified for just about anything. This is a skill that has come in handy before.  Like when I got a summer internship at a company who’s CEO’s first words to me were “we don’t hire undergraduates from your major.”

The Planets
Gustav Holst’s The Planets as conducted by Hans Graf and played by the Houston Symphony Orchestra, backdropped by HD images and video of the respective planets of our solar system provided by NASA.  This was a fantastic way to experience this legendary orchestral suite.  The show is on tour, too, so look for it in your home town. http://www.houstonsymphony.org/

Thanks to all the teachers →
Considering I might become a teacher soon, I thought this was a great link. sbcthemuse: bobulate: For those who have ever heard, “Those who can, do, and those who can’t, teach:” Taylor Mali, on behalf of educators everywhere, on what teachers make: I make kids work harder than I ever thought they could. I make parents see kids for who they really are. I make kids wonder. I make them...

Conan
Tonight’s show was amazing.  Conan is a very respectable and classy guy.  On the brink of tears, he baid farewell to his loyal fans, staff, and even gave a respectful good bye to the studio that harbored him for 30 years.  And in the end he played the show off with Freebird, played by himself, ZZ Top, Beck, and Will Farrel among others. Kudos to a silly, respectable, and amazing...

In my attempts to contact a real person about my unemployment benefits, I stumbled upon this website, with instructions on how to talk to a real person at some of the biggest customer service companies.  Didn’t help me, but thought someone out there might like it.

Job fair today had absolutely no engineering groups there.  I may be doomed to go into sales… just as the “wise” drunken frat dude fortold nearly a year ago! Did get my resume out to a bunch of companies, though, just no one I’m really rearing to commit to right now.

Late Night
On the drive back from picking up Julz at the airport, I came to the realization that these are some of the best days of my life. Forget all the crap that happened to me in 2009. Right now I spend my days looking for my true calling in life, my afternoons rediscovering my desires and passions, and my nights just playing games, watching tv, and kicking it with friends. This life: not so bad.

Commitment
Given the unfortunate conclusion that the marriages of several acquaintances of mine have come to, I’ve decided I’m only getting married once.  And guess what that means?  Means I’m going to be damn sure I got the right one before I do something as stupid as getting married. I recommend the 50% of the population that’s doomed to divorcing follow suit. And somehow that...

Teaching
Having recently found myself among the ever growing masses that make up the nation’s unemployed, I’ve set out to better understand what career would best fit me.  Assuming the unemployment office grants me its bountiful stipend to help me in this process, I won’t have to rush into whatever best buy cashier gig or target clothing folder job that comes my way, and I can do some...
